Money Saving Rental Tips

  • Many property management companies and vacation homes provide New Bern area travel books which feature money-saving coupons, either offered individually by merchants, or through a relationship between the property management company and the local store itself. Search for these publications and discount books, since this allows vacation goers to discover the same fantastic activities at a typically significantly discounted.
  • Are your trip dates changeable? Off-peak times offer substantial bargains.
  • Plenty of management companies and owners offer discount rates for active duty and veteran members of the Armed forces, or repeat visitors of the same vacation home. Make sure to check with property manager to see if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduction.
  • Some homes are primarily suited for specific types of vacationers. Large event homes are perfect for weddings, receptions and corporate escapes. Some homes cater to beach bums. Other properties are positioned close to music venues. You'll receive the best value from a home which most thoroughly satisfies your ideal vacation setting, regardless if it costs a bit more.
  • Give thought to purchasing trip insurance with your lease agreement. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the basic term price, offers buyers reimbursement of their vacation expenses for any nights missed as a consequence of health-related emergencies or storms, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or expenses, such as an unplanned hotel room stay or additional gasoline. Trip insurance might just be a bank account-saver if the unforseen happens .

How to Book a Vacation Home

You might be surprised to find out just how many vacation homes are available at your destination. Rental homes are gaining in popularity among vacationers, and visitors will find that the sheer number of rental homes available allows them to find an perfect getaway to suit their New Bern family, from relaxed condominiums to giant event homes with several bedrooms.

Virtually all rental homes in New Bern are privately operated and many are represented by established local rental management agencies. Property management companies are well-liked by property owners mainly because they coordinate the advertising and operations..

Seasoned New Bern vacationers have identified a few tips and tricks over the years with regards to renting rentals, however most novices will be happy to find that several "strategies" are in plain sight, if you recognize how to look.

Where to find and reserve a great rental property:

Do you believe "The Heart of Emerald Isle" is the best rental property for your next getaway? Browse through this guide to confirm it fits all of your needs.

Begin Your Search Early

New Bern rental properties are reserved months (and up to a year) in advance. To assure the greatest selection of rental homes, we suggest searching and reserving your New Bern vacation home 6-Twelve months before your travel dates, whenever you can. Holiday reunions are a popular time for family groups to plan their Summer vacations..

Find your Spot and Decide Dates

Agreement can often be challenging between members of the family, but as soon as this tricky part is finished everything will start to fall in place.

How Many Beds?

How many relatives are joining your getaway? Bear in mind that most homes list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in the home's living room. You'll need to determine what is acceptable for the family. Generally rental listings will describe each of the unit's specific bedrooms and beds.

Commit to a Spending Limit

Many vacation homes are advertised with a cost range. Confirm the cost for your preferred trip. It might be at the high end of the range. Make sure that you get cost-sharing commitments from travel companions prior to reserving a pricey vacation property. Usually, a single person in the group will be in charge of making the full reservation and collecting each party's contribution.

Property Amenities

What property features is your group searching for? Is a swimming pool mandatory? Are you looking for a rental home with outdoor dining area? Are you more interested in wildlife or nightlife? Are extras like beach chairs, grills, umbrellas, buggies or coolers at your disposal and included in your rental home fee? Make a list of prioritized "necessities and wants" from your company to help filter your search to the most appropriate property.

Accessability

Appropriate access can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. If wheel chair access, elevators, pool lifts or other special equipment is needed, factor that into your search. Almost all vacation rental listings include a list of amenities.

What About 4-Legged Family Members?

Do not forget to include your best friend! Animal friends are welcome at many vacation rentals, but policies can vary. Make sure that you read descriptions and contracts carefully. Service fees may apply when animals are added. Ask questions *well before* you reserve!

The best places to Search

After the location, dates and attendees are decided, search multiple resources for the very best vacation rental selection. Besides Homeaway, VRBO and Tripadvisor, we advise searching Google for "New Bern local rentals" for local rental management companies. Local companies typically have a unique selection of rental homes daily and weekly.

Negotiate the Price

When you've identified your dream rental, make sure your travel dates are available.

Although not true for all properties, many rental owners and property managers will negotiate rates. If they are hesitant to budge on a peak-season stay, try asking for an additional night. Your greatest chance of a reduced rate is changing to an off-season week.

Study The Agreement

Read through the entire agreement and be sure you understand who is liable for:

  • Utility bills
  • Internet
  • Phone service
  • Hot Tub Heating
  • Cable and pay-per-view TV
  • Cleaning services and housekeeping
  • Trash collection
  • Maintenance (get a phone number)
  • Key exchange
  • Parking Space

Ensure that your quote includes all taxes and fees.

What is the Cancellation Policy?

Ensure you are familiar with the cancellation policy before reserving. Vacation rental management companies and home owners typically offer their clients the choice to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance protects the renter against emergency situations and weather events, It offers comfort should disaster strike.

Reserve your Vacation Property

When everything seems right, it's finally time to sign on the dotted line. You'll probably be required to submit a security deposit at time of booking.

Know Who to Call

Put the rental manager's contact info into your cell phone and wallet for easy access to answers during your visit.

Congrats! All that is left is enjoying your visit!

During your Stay

  • Take notes of any wear and tear right after you arrive. If you find damages, or if fixes are needed call the home manager straight away. This can prevent disputes during check out.
  • Ask questions. Should there be any ambiguity about vehicle parking, rules of the property, property access, pool operations, etc... we suggest you ask the rental manager promptly. A quick phone call avoids many headaches.
  • Be respectful of the community. Permanent residents frequently live within earshot. Remember the golden rule and treat others the same way you'd like to be treated by visitors next to your residence.
  • Ask a local. Local people are a fantastic source of recommendations. Who better to ask where to get the best pizza, have a great date night, or the best places for wildlife?
  • Enjoy your stay! Remember to protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental home secured when you are away, just like you would in your own home.

Leaving Paradise

  • Double-check each space of the rental to confirm you've packed all possessions.
  • Be sure to walk through the rental home one last time and look for damage. If it is possible, do this walk-out inspection with the property manager present. If the property manager is not available, be sure to take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • How was your trip? Many rental management companies and rental websites allow renters to give comments. If your property and/or property manager was great, they'll appreciate your positive reviews. If anything went wrong, we advise being kind but honest regarding your rental experience. The best owners and managers will work very hard to correct the problem.

Learn and Improve

Hold a vacation recap meeting with your travel companions. Did everybody have a great time? Maybe everything turned out to be fantastic and you're all set to reserve the same rental home for next season. If not, you have acquired valuable experience that will help with another search.
