Strategies for getting the perfect rental experience:

When to visit Emerald Isle & When to reserve a rental home:

  • Summertime is high season in the New Bern area. Reserve your vacation in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • In the New Bern area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property managers usually offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local New Bern area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for nearby tours and attractions.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Start by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Crystal Conch sleeps 16, private home close to beach access has 7 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property owner before booking the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If there's a certain New Bern beach you simply love, search for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the host's phone number to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • At Check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • On check-out day, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to inspire more bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
