Tricks and tips to get the optimal New Bern rental home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Summer months are high season in the New Bern area. To find the best value, shift your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Filter your search:
- Choose vacation dates and budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Woody Cottage, Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 7 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available online. If not, email or call the property management company before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what is best for your vacation group.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Request information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Tips for a wonderful stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- To make certain damages are not attributed to your visit, record any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the property manager right away to record your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your rental while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a fantastic vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
