Our top Rental property booking tips and tricks:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To get the best vacation home within your budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular New Bern attractions. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites often offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local New Bern area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain deals for nearby tours and attractions.

How to select the best rental home:

  • First, have your family choose date ranges and a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. Second row, ocean view duplex w\/ easy beach access has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible online. Otherwise, email the property manager before you book the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.
  • Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

During your stay:

  • Add the host's information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
  • During arrival, make note of any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic source for finding the best local scenic spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on great feedback to drive new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
