Booking the best New Bern rental experience:
When to visit Emerald Isle & When to reserve a Emerald Isle rental home:
- Summer time is high season in Emerald Isle. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local New Bern area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have discounts for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
How to select the best rental home:
- Select vacation week and budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. 3 Bed\/2.5 Bath 1450 sq ft with Large Open Floor Plan, 3 Min Walk to Beach has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before you reserve your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.
More tips for your visit:
- Add the host's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Document any issues with the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if damages are assessed.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to confirm you've collected everything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a terrific vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
