Strategies to get the very best vacation property experience:

Sticking to a rental home budget:

  • The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Booking your vacation home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Booking websites usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have deals for nearby tours and attractions.

Planning, selecting, and booking the perfectrental:

  • To start, have your family decide on vacation dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. The Beachcomber on Atlantic Beach has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. If not, contact the property owner before reserving the property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out which bed configuration is right for your trip.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or could be applied to your invoice.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few difficulties.
  • Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Upon arrival, make note of any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your life at home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a wonderful time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
