Rental home booking tips and tricks:
Getting the most from your spending budget:
- In the New Bern area, The earlier your group can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the best value, try shifting your vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Many rental management companies supply New Bern area visitors guides which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to choose the perfect vacation rental:
- Choose your vacation week and spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. 2nd-Floor Condo with Great View of Tennis Courts & Pool & Shared Pools has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern vacation rental search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is best for your trip.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or charges may be applied to your agreement.
- Visiting for a single event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
More tips for your visit:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
- Record any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Just before checking out, take a walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on great reviews to stimulate new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
