Tips to get the best vacation home experience:

Finding the best rental home value:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • To find the largest vacation home within budget, we recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Some property managers offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group.
  • Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Many management companies supply New Bern area visitors guides that include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning, picking, and booking the rightrental:

  • Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and select a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Oceanfront beach cottage with large deck & W/D - dog-friendly has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before reserving your rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is best for your group.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, search for a property that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of difficulties.
  • Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
  • To make sure that no damages are attributed to your visit, note any problem areas upon check in. Call the host immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to stimulate future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
