Tips and Tricks to get the best New Bern vacation property experience:

When to visit Emerald Isle & When to book:

  • The earlier your group can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Reserve your New Bern rental in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Some owners offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Selecting the perfect vacation rental:

  • First, have your group decide on trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Ocean Reef 9-A1, Oceanfront Condo in Emerald Isle, NC! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking websites. If not, contact the property manager before booking the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or applied to your invoice.
  • Are you visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

Advice for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your .
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of issues.
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if a dispute arises.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on great feedback to stimulate new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
