Tips and Tricks to get the perfect New Bern vacation property experience:

When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Book your New Bern vacation in Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • In the New Bern area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Hosts sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have coupons for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Make a plan and choose yourrental home:

  • Select your vacation week and budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Summer Winds A-104, Oceanfront Condo in Indian Beach, NC! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rental home search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking websites. Otherwise, email the host before reserving the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or costs may be applied to your invoice.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
  • To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the host immediately to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a fantastic stay? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
