How to find the best Atlantic Beach vacation property experience:

When to visit Atlantic Beach & When to book:

  • In the New Bern area, The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. To find the best value, consider changing your vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Some property managers offer special rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides contain discounts for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Choosing the best rental:

  • Start by having your family agree to trip dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Oceanfront Complex, First Floor Southwinds, Ocean & Sound Views, 2 Pools! has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before you book the property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what configuration is right for your trip.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental

More considerations:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Make a record of any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a excellent time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
