The Front Porch on Ann Street

Our calendar is refreshed in real-time & our nightly prices are accurately displayed. Simply enter your desired dates and click 'Book Now!'

With more than a century of seafaring history woven into its walls, The Front Porch on Ann Street is full of the timeless ambiance of striking downtown Beaufort. It's a place for gorgeous days of exploring and balmy afternoons spent rocking on the front porch, watching the neighborhood pass you by.

One of the excellent features of this home is its storied history, dating back to Captain Jack Parkins and his wife, Emily, who moved the home - by barge - from Adam's Creek to its present location after marrying in 1902. In the century since the home rolled on logs across Front Street, it has remained in the Parkins-Lewis family as Beaufort has grown up around it. The heart of town is half a mile west, home to an array of eateries and stores, the Island Express Ferry Service, and the North Carolina Maritime Museum.

Sunlight seems to find every corner of the home, thanks to generous windows that line both floors. Linger on the porch swing or the rocking chairs out front, fire up the gas grille, or step inside to either the living room or family room to bask in the comfort of central air conditioning.

Prepare family meals in the well-equipped kitchen, sit down for dinner in the formal dining room, and bring coffee and dessert to the yard out back to appreciate in the shade of mature trees. In the evenings, take a sunset bicycle ride, watch movies on the TV, log onto the WiFi to catch up on e-mail at one of multiple desk workspaces, and get a sound nighttime's sleep in the four inviting bedrooms upstairs.

Finding the best rental experience:

Sticking to a budget:

  • To get the largest vacation home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions.
  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines which often include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Filter your search:

  • First, have your group select a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Historic downtown home with porch, backyard & prime location - dog-friendly has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, call the property owner before reserving your home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • We recommend storing the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • During check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great source for finding the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on great feedback to stimulate more bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
