Tips to get the best vacation property experience:

Get the most from your rental budget:

  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Reserve your New Bern rental home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites typically offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Often, property management companies supply New Bern area visitor guide magazines which often include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to select the perfect vacation home in Beaufort:

  • Choose a designated group leader, choose your dates, and select a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Keeper's Retreat, Townhouse in Historical Beaufort, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before you reserve the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.
  • If there's an individual New Bern destination you are crazy about, browse rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of difficulties.
  • Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
  • During arrival, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a wonderful stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
