Tricks and tips to get the optimal rental home experience:
When to visit Emerald Isle & When to reserve a rental home:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Book your rental home in the Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Many management companies supply New Bern area visitor guides which include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Filter your search:
- Choose vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration you need. Perfect Oceanfront Cottage With Private Pool: Sea Glass has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, call the host before reserving the home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what is right for your vacation family.
- Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
- To make sure that no damages are linked to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas during check in. E-mail the host immediately to report any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Just before checking out, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a wonderful time? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
