New Bern vacation rental home tips:

When to visit & When to book:

  • In the New Bern area, The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the best value, try shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Often, management companies supply New Bern area travel guide magazines that include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Finding the best vacation rental:

  • First and foremost, have your group select vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Sweetwater, Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking pages. If not, email or call the property owner before you reserve your home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Get details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking

Know before you go:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
  • Record any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if damages are assessed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a fantastic stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
