Tricks and tips to get the very best vacation property experience:

Getting the best rental value:

  • June, July, and August are high season in the New Bern area. To book the largest rental within your budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Planning, picking, and booking the rightvacation home:

  • To start, have your group select the best dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Oceans #12, Oceanside Condo in Pine Knoll Shores, NC! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rental home search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If there's an individual New Bern destination you love, browse homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • If your family is bringing pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

Know before you go:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make sure no damages are attributed to your visit, record any problem areas during arrival. Speak to the rental manager immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a fantastic time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
