Vacation rental tips:

When to visit & When to book:

  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • To find the best value, consider shifting your family's New Bern vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on local tours and attractions.

How to select the best vacation home:

  • Select dates and budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Tidal Treasure 10% of for a 7-night booking! Bring your boat! Pet friendly! has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before you reserve your home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what is best for your vacation group.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or applied to your contract.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental

During your stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of issues.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • To make certain that damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, note any problem areas upon your arrival. Speak to the property manager right away to document any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent source for finding the best local attractions.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • At departure, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a terrific stay? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
