New Bern rental home tips and tricks:

Find your best deal:

  • To get the largest vacation home within your budget, we suggest reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property management companies usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides contain deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Planning and choosing yourrental home:

  • To start, have your group commit to a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. The King's Table - Oceanfront House, 4BR, 4.5BA, Pine Knoll Shores has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before you reserve the rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what configuration is best for your group.
  • If there's a specific New Bern destination you long to visit, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas during arrival. Call the host right away to record any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your life at home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on great reviews to inspire new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
