Tips and Tricks for getting the best Emerald Isle rental experience:
Sticking to a spending plan:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Emerald Isle. Booking in the Spring or Fall is a great way to save on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Booking websites often offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain coupons for local accommodations and attractions.
Filter your rental search:
- Choose a group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Dogs OK! 4BR 2nd Row Duplex w\/ FANTASTIC Ocean Views! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before you reserve the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Does your family require particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
Additional considerations:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of problems.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Make a record of any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a excellent time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
