Tips and Tricks to get the optimal vacation property experience:
How to get the best value:
- In the New Bern area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- Summer is the most expensive season in the New Bern area. Reserve your New Bern vacation in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitor guides that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- To start, have your family select vacation dates and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Elevated Second Row 4 Bedroom Home - Great Ocean Views - Steps to Beach has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property management company before booking the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property owners charge additional pet fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Additional considerations:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would at home.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your stay, make a record of any problem areas upon check in. Contact the host right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be respectful. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a terrific stay? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
