How to find the best Emerald Isle rental experience:

Get the best value:

  • In the New Bern area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Booking your vacation home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • June, July, and August are high season in Emerald Isle. To get the best rental within budget, we highly recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides contain deals for local tours and attractions.

How to select the perfect rental in the New Bern area:

  • Choose a group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Beachy Keen, Almost Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking websites. If not, call the property manager before booking the property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or costs could be applied to your contract.
  • If there's a particular New Bern destination you are enamored with, search for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

Advice for a fantastic stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of issues.
  • Lock your rental while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • During check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • At departure, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a fantastic time? Many rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
