Tips to get the best New Bern vacation home experience:
Sticking to your spending budget:
- In the New Bern area, The sooner you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Booking your rental property six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- June, July, and August are high season in Emerald Isle. Booking in the Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
How to select the best vacation home in the New Bern area:
- First and foremost, have your group commit to the best dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Third row dog friendly, w/ elevator/lift, ocean view has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking websites. If not, contact the property manager before you book the property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what is right for your vacation.
- If your family is bringing pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a specific New Bern attraction you crave, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many issues.
- Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Document any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if there is a dispute.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a fantastic time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
