How to get the best Emerald Isle vacation property experience:
Find your perfect rental:
- In the New Bern area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Booking in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitor guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Choosing the best rental home in Emerald Isle:
- Select a group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Blue Water, Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 7 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking pages. If not, call the property management company before you book the property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get details on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Does your family require specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
During your stay:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few problems.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
- Make a record of any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a great stay? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
