Our top Rental property booking tips and tricks:
Cost saving strategies:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in the New Bern area. To find the largest vacation home within your budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular New Bern attractions. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some owners offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines which will include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Make a plan and choose your prefect New Bern rental:
- Choose dates and budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. Blue Dolphin, Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 7 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before you reserve your rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If there's a certain New Bern beach you simply love, look for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Add the host's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To make sure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the rental manager right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on good ratings to propel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
