Strategies to get the best New Bern vacation rental experience:
Sticking to your spending plan:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Book your vacation home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Often, management companies supply New Bern area travel guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Selecting the perfect vacation home in the New Bern area:
- Begin by choosing your the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Blue Dolphin, Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 7 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before booking the rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what is optimal for your group.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
- If there's a specific New Bern attraction you are enamored with, keep an eye out for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
Tips to have a great stay:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many difficulties.
- Lock your rental home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
- Upon check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a great vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
