Strategies to get the optimal rental home experience:
Finding the best rental home value:
- Summertime is high season in the New Bern area. Book your New Bern rental in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local New Bern area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have coupons for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Filter your rental search:
- Start by having your group decide on trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Oceanfront Oasis w/double covered porch 4 BR/2BA - updated Emerald Isle classic! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before you reserve the home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
- If there's a particular New Bern destination you crave, look for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
More tips for your stay:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Note any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if there is a dispute.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on great ratings to compel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
