Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation rental experience:
When to go & When to reserve a New Bern rental home:
- The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Often, property management companies supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines which include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Make a plan and choose the best New Bern vacation home:
- Start by choosing trip dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. A private, wooded home in Emerald Isle, NC, 5th row from the beach (5 min walk) has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before you book the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or applied to your invoice.
- If there's a certain New Bern destination you long to visit, browse properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Have a great stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many issues.
- Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Record any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if a dispute arises.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on great reviews to compel future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
