Tips and Tricks to get the perfect rental experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To find the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain discounts for nearby tours and attractions.
Choosing the perfect rental:
- Select a group leader, select your trip dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Tranquillis East, Almost Oceanfront Duplex in Emerald Isle, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the host before you book the rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Get details on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- Does your group require special amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
Considerations for your stay:
- We recommend storing the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of problems.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Make a record of any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a excellent time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
