Our top Vacation rental home tips and tricks:

Money saving strategies:

  • The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Summertime is high season in Emerald Isle. To find the best value, change your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, , and reduced traffic.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Many management companies supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Choosing and booking yourvacation home:

  • Select your vacation dates and spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Short walk to ocean and sound! FREE use of golf cart! Several decks & patio! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rentals search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available online. If not, email or call the property manager before reserving the property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish which bed configuration is suitable for your group.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental

More considerations:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many issues.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Make a record of any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave a review! Property managers rely on great reviews to compel future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
