Vacation rental tips and tricks:
Get the most from your rental budget:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To get the largest rental within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain coupons for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Begin by choosing trip dates and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration you need. Beach Music, Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before reserving the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or may be applied to your contract.
- If there's a particular New Bern attraction you long to visit, look for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
Some things to know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- At Check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to propel more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
