Tips to get the perfect New Bern vacation home experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Summer months are high season in the New Bern area. To get the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, , and reduced traffic.
- In the New Bern area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning and choosing the perfect New Bern rental:
- Choose your dates and budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Sound Of The Sea East 123, Oceanfront Condo in Emerald Isle, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available online. If not, contact the property manager before reserving the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Know before you go:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Record any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few issues.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
- When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on good ratings to compel more reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
