Our top Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
Sticking to a spending budget:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in Indian Beach. To book the largest rental for your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants.
- Some property managers offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Property management companies typically offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on local shops and restaurants.
Narrow your Search:
- Start by choosing your vacation dates and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Summer Winds C-325: 4BR, 2.5BA, Oceanfront Condo has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible online. If they are not listed, email the property owner before booking the rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or charges might be applied to your agreement.
- If there's an individual New Bern beach you crave, look for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
Know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your smartphone.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Note any damages to the property at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- On check-out day, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to stimulate new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
