Our top Rental home tips and tricks:
How to get the best rental value:
- Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Booking your vacation home in Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property managers frequently offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have discounts for local accommodations and attractions.
Selecting the best vacation rental in the New Bern area:
- First and foremost, have your group choose the best dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Oceanfront Oasis w\/double covered porch 4 BR\/2BA - updated Emerald Isle classic! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the host before you reserve your home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Does your group require specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or charges applied to your contract.
Advice for a fantastic stay:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
- To make certain that damages aren't attributed to your stay, make note of any problem areas upon check in. Contact the property manager right away to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to propel future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
