Vacation rental tips:
When to visit Emerald Isle & When to book:
- June, July, and August are high season in the New Bern area. Booking a rental in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides contain coupons for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Begin by selecting potential vacation weeks and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Oceanfront 3 Bedroom 2 Bath Duplex in Emerald Isle. has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property manager before reserving the home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what is suitable for your family.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking
- If your group is bringing pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, hosts charge additional pet fees.
More tips for your visit:
- Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- During check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your life at home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a great time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
