Our top Emerald Isle rental booking tips:

Find your perfect rental:

  • The sooner you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Summer is high season in the New Bern area. To get the best value, change your family's New Bern vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby shops and restaurants.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by selecting trip dates and a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Well maintained 4 bed\/4 bath house in quiet area has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible online. If not, reach out to the property owner before booking the home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what configuration is right for your family.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or costs may be applied to your contract.
  • Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking

During your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your phone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of concerns.
  • Lock your vacation home while you're away. Keep your property safe!
  • Note any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good feedback to drive new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
