Strategies to get the perfect New Bern rental experience:
When to visit Emerald Isle & When to reserve a rental home:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a great way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local New Bern area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides have money saving offers on local tours and attractions.
Choosing the best rental:
- To start, have your group select the best dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Middle of the Row Duplex, Quiet, and Cozy, 3 bed/2 bath has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property management company before booking your home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is suitable for your trip.
- If there's an individual New Bern destination you are enamored with, search for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- If your family is traveling with pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Get details on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of problems.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic source for finding the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to compel more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
