Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation home experience:
Get the best rental home value:
- Summer time is high season in the New Bern area. Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area travel guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to choose the perfect rental home:
- Select a group lead, choose your dates, and choose a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Ocean Reef 4-B1, Oceanfront Condo in Emerald Isle, NC! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern vacation rental search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the host before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your family.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a property that allows animals. Get information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
Additional considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your visit, make a record of any problem areas during check in. Contact the rental manager immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected everything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a excellent time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
