Tips to get the best Emerald Isle rental experience:

Find your perfect vacation home:

  • The sooner you can book, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • Summer is high season in the New Bern area. Reserve your New Bern rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Often, property management companies supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Narrow your Search:

  • Select your dates and spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. New! Updated Villa in Emerald Isle, near the Point has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rentals search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. If not, email the property owner before you reserve your home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what is optimal for your vacation group.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking

During your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many concerns.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
  • Record any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to inspire future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
