Strategies to get the very best New Bern rental experience:

When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:

  • June, July, and August are high season in the New Bern area. Book your New Bern rental property in Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • The earlier your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Hosts sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Many management companies supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines which include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by selecting your vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Living Under The Rainbow, Almost Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the host before booking the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.

More considerations:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
  • Upon arrival, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a wonderful time? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
