Our top Rental booking tips and tricks:

When to visit Emerald Isle & When to reserve a Emerald Isle rental home:

  • Summer time is high season in the New Bern area. To find the most suitable vacation home for your budget, we recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at New Bern restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Often, property management companies supply New Bern area visitor guides which include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Amazing Sound Front Cottage with Private Pier and In-Ground Pool!!! has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rentals search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available online. If not, email the property manager before you book the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.

Tips to have a great stay:

  • Get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • During check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of issues.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent resource to find the best local beaches.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to propel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
