Kolby's Kottage is one of the last over the water bungalows on the safe and protected Radio Island Causeway between Morehead City and Beaufort NC. Open the front door and you will be amazed at the spectacular view like no other. The best feature of this home is being directly over the water as the tide rises and falls. Standing on the dock, you can see the flag at Fort Macon, Carrot Island grazing horses and the Atlantic Ocean. This 1300 square-foot Cottage was constructed in the 1930s and refreshed in 2022. The bungalow has modern amenities, granite countertops and tile baths yet the integrity of the 1930s is ever present. Kolby's bungalow has the original wood floor, tongue and groove wood walls and a view that is indescribable! Sleeps 8, a unique set up of open areas (two queens, two sets of bunk beds and a full couch bed) Park your boat on the attached dock and cruise to Beaufort inlet (1 mile) Beaufort waterfront or Morehead city waterfront....go fishing or kayaking from your dock… The options are limitless. Ideal for afternoon cruises and /or dining. Watch dolphins feed from the comfort of your living room. The huge roomy dock is overlooking the western entrance of Taylor's Creek and provides a spectacular sunset every evening. Grocery delivery is available. Come and share this unique experience on the Crystal Coast.

My husband and I along with daughter Kolby have traveled extensively and have brought what we believe to be simple luxury. We all three welcome you to relax in Kolby's Kottage, an experience you won't forget.

Tricks and tips to get the perfect rental home experience:

How to get the best value:

  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is high season in Beaufort. To get the best value, try changing your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Some owners offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Often, rental management companies supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines which include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to pick the perfect rental home:

  • Start by selecting your vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Cottage built over the water!! Newly renovated! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking pages. If not, call the property management company before you reserve the home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or may be applied to your agreement.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of issues.
  • Lock your rental while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • To make certain that no damages are attributed to your visit, make a record of any problem areas upon your arrival. Contact the property manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a terrific vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
