Strategies to get the best New Bern vacation property experience:

Get the best rental value:

  • In the New Bern area, The sooner you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in Beaufort. To find the best value, change your family's New Bern trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group.
  • Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Planning, selecting, and booking a perfectvacation home:

  • At Check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to compel more bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
