Tips to get the very best vacation rental experience:

When to visit & When to book:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Booking in the Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties.
  • The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Often, rental management companies supply New Bern area visitor guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Choosing and booking your New Bern rental:

  • Begin by choosing your a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. A Block from the Dock in Historic Beaufort has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before you book the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is suitable for your group.
  • Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or costs could be applied to your agreement.

More tips for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
  • Note any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if damages are assessed.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're away. Keep your property safe!
  • Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good reviews to compel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
