Our top New Bern vacation rental home tips and tricks:

When to visit Beaufort & When to book:

  • The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Booking your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • Summer months are high season in the New Bern area. Booking your vacation rental in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • Some hosts offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Look for your local New Bern area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

How to pick the best vacation home in Beaufort:

  • Select a group leader, choose your dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. A Block from the Dock - 4 kayaks - 5 bikes - Beach gear - Gameroom garage - Pool has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern vacation rental search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the host before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental

More tips for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • To ensure that damages are not linked to your stay, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. Call the rental manager right away to record your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Leave feedback! Hosts rely on good feedback to inspire more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
