How to book the best New Bern vacation home experience:
Get the best rental value:
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Reserving a rental home in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a discount.
- Property managers typically offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have coupons for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Selecting the perfect rental home in Emerald Isle:
- Choose your vacation week and budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. 103 Ebb Tide, Almost Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or costs applied to your agreement.
- If there's a certain New Bern beach you are enamored with, search for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
Some things to know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if there is a dispute.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and scan for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good reviews to propel new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
