How to get the best Emerald Isle rental home experience:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- Summertime is high season in the New Bern area. Reserve your New Bern vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to pick the best rental in the New Bern area:
- Select your vacation week and budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Big Kahuna, Oceanview House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before booking the vacation property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or applied to your contract.
Advice for your stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- Document any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if there is a dispute.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your life at home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to compel new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
