Strategies to get the optimal New Bern vacation home experience:

Getting the most from your spending budget:

  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • June, July, and August are high season in the New Bern area. Reserve your New Bern rental property in Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Look for your local New Bern area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guides contain coupons for local accommodations and attractions.

How to choose the perfect vacation home in the New Bern area:

  • First, have your family commit to dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Captain's Escape, Almost Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often available online. If they are not listed, email the property owner before you book the rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what is right for your vacation family.
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or charges might be applied to your contract.
  • Is your group looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of concerns.
  • Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • To make certain that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, note any problem areas during check in. Call the rental manager immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
