How to book the best vacation rental experience:

Getting the most from your spending budget:

  • In the New Bern area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in the New Bern area. Booking your vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Many property management companies supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

  • Record any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if a dispute is filed.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic source for finding the best local spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.

Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
