Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect vacation home experience:
When to book a New Bern rental & When to go:
- Booking a rental in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain coupons for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Selecting and booking the bestvacation home:
- Start by choosing the best vacation week and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Summer Winds A-302, Oceanfront Condo in Indian Beach, NC! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before you reserve the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
- If there's a particular New Bern destination you are enamored with, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Get the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- To make sure damages are not linked to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the rental manager right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a excellent vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
