Our top Atlantic Beach rental booking tips and tricks:
Get the best value:
- June, July, and August are high season in the New Bern area. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Choosing the perfect vacation home:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your dates, and select a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. ?? Renovated, family-friendly condo across street from the beach - with pool! ???? has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is often available online. Otherwise, reach out to the host before you book the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what is best for your vacation.
- Is your group looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
- Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- At Check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many issues.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would at home.
- At departure, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a excellent stay? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
