Our top Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Sticking to a spending plan:

  • To get the best value, try shifting your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area travel guide magazines that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning, selecting, and booking your prefect New Bern vacation home:

  • First, have your family commit to the best dates and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Oceanfront house with many upgrades in the heart of Atlantic Beach! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property owner before you book your home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what configuration is right for your group.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • At Check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a terrific vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
