How to get the best vacation rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the best vacation home for your budget, we strongly suggest booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area travel guide magazines which include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Begin by choosing a vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Beautiful, Comfortable Condo With Dock Space ... quick access to Bogue Sound has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property management company before you reserve the rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is optimal for your trip.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or might be applied to your invoice.
Additional considerations:
- Get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Document any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if a dispute is filed.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a great source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on good reviews to stimulate future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
