Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect New Bern rental home experience:
Get the most from your vacation rental budget:
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Booking in Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area travel guides that include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Make a plan and choose your New Bern rental home:
- First and foremost, have your family decide on the best dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Beautiful, Comfortable Condo With Dock Space ... quick access to Bogue Sound has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the host before booking the home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what is optimal for your vacation family.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
During your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Record any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your peace. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to inspire more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
