Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect rental experience:

Find your perfect rental:

  • To find the best value, consider shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Many management companies supply New Bern area visitor guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Start by having your family decide on date ranges and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Oceanfront high rise condo, centrally located in Emerald Isle has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible online. If not, email the property manager before you book the property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or costs could be applied to your agreement.

More tips for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of problems.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let crooks spoil your holiday.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a excellent vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
